Causes of larynx cancer


The exact causes of larynx or laryngeal cancer are unknown rather there are some risk factors for laryngeal cancer. Among common larynx cancer causes the following factors are very important to be considered:

  • Asbestos exposure
  • Cigarette smoking
  • Excessive use of alcohol
  • Nicotine addiction

If larynx cancer is detected early, it can be treatable in 90% larynx cancer patients. If larynx cancer spreads to other parts of the throat then it can be cured just for 50%.But, in case if it spreads to other parts of the body then it would be not curable.

Larynx cancer is rare and is more common in men than in women. Larynx cancer is rare under 50 years of age. Exact causes of laryngeal cancer are unknown. Alcohol drinking and an extensive use of alcohol can cause larynx cancer and it is notable that the people who drink and smoke regularly are at high risk of developing larynx cancer.

People already having head and neck cancers are at increased risk for larynx cancer. There are some chemicals that can cause larynx cancer e.g. if people are regularly exposed to coal dust, wood dust, paint fumes they can develop larynx cancer.
