For diagnosis of food allergy, a doctor first needs to know if a person has allergy to specific foods. This can be done by taking medical history, dietary diary and elimination diet. If this procedure suggests a specific food allergy the doctor then recommend tests such as blood tests, skin tests and a good challenge which confirm a food allergy.

Almost every sort of allergy is diagnosed by taking the history of the patient. In each case the doctors try to supplement the history with proper diagnostic testing. This means what sort of food items the patient ate, what changes the patient experienced in the environment.
