What are cerebral palsy symptoms?


Signs of cerebral palsy are not observed during infancy but the cerebral palsy symptoms become noticeable when nervous system of a child matures. Early signs of cerebral palsy include:

  • Delayed controlling head, walking or crawling
  • Persistence of primitive reflexes, which can disappear after birth
  • Development of handedness, which is an indication of abnormal muscular tone and weakness, also develops. There can be mild cerebral palsy or it can be a severe one too.

The severity of cerebral palsy depends on the brain damage severity and can be observable only to doctors. Cerebral palsy symptoms also include:

  • Abnormal movements
  • Skeletal deformities
  • Joint contractures
  • Mental retardation
  • Seizures
  • Speech problems
  • Swallowing problems
  • Hearing loss
  • Vision problems
  • Dental problems
  • Bladder control and bowel problems
  • Difficulty in perception
  • Ataxia
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Spastic paralysis
  • Athetosis
  • Feeding and sucking difficulty
