There are two types of angina i.e. stable angina and unstable angina. Stable angina, which is the most common type of angina, can be simply called as angina by most people. People having angina usually have clear symptoms of angina and are advised to seek treatment of angina. Most people suffer from an angina attack after an exercise.Symptoms of angina do not stay for long time and can be relieved by taking rest, doing exercise and placing nitroglycerin under the tongue. Unstable angina is a worse form of stable angina. The major causes of angina are coronary artery spasm and coronary artery disease. In case of coronary artery disease, coronary arteries become blocked due to plaques.

Other causes of angina that need proper diagnosis of angina include:

  • Diabetes
  • Overweight and obesity
  • Lack of exercise
  • Family history with heart attack and angina
  • High levels of blood cholesterol
  • Cigarette smoking
  • Hypertension/ high blood pressure

Many individuals develop angina symptoms regardless of above mentioned causes of angina.
