People who already have a family history of eczema or other allergic conditions like asthma or hay fever tend to be more susceptible to get eczema.

What does eczema look like?

Eczema may look different from person to person and eczema skin symptoms may vary. Eczema is characterized by red, dry, irritating and itchy patches on the skin. It is also sometimes known as “the itch that rashes”. When itch is scratched, rashes appear.

Eczema is produced at any part of the body including forehead, neck, cheeks, legs, scalp and arms. Chronic scratching makes the skin to attain a leathery texture because as a result of scratching it thickens.

Causes of eczema

Exact cause of eczema is unknown. However, an abnormality in the functioning of an immune system is considered to be a major factor. There are some forms of eczema which are triggered by soaps, cosmetics, jewelry, detergents, clothing and sweat. Environmental allergens can also cause outbreaks of eczema. Eczema outbreaks may also cause due to changes in temperature or humidity as well as a psychological stress.

Types of eczema

Common types of eczema are:

Atopic dermatitis

Contact eczema

Seborrheic eczema

Nummular eczema

Neurodermatitis

Stasis dermatitis

Dyshidrotic eczema

Eczema preventions

As it is commonly stated that prevention is better than cure, eczema can be prevented by adopting some simple measures.

Avoid sudden changes in temperature or humidity

Moisturize frequently

Reduce stress

Avoid overheating or sweating

Avoid irritants or scratchy materials like wool

Avoid harsh detergents, soaps and solvents

Avoid all such environmental factors that trigger allergies like pollens, mites and animal dander

Avoid all such foods that may cause eczema outbreaks

Diagnosis of melanoma is done when doctor suspects some spot on the skin to be one of the symptoms of melanoma. A biopsy is a general way for a definite diagnosis of melanoma. This procedure and melanoma treatment involves removing all the suspicious tissue growths. But if the growth is too large to remove, the doctor just takes a sample of that specific affected tissue. A biopsy is done usually in the doctor’s office using anesthesia. The doctors do not shave off the affected suspected melanoma tissue growth. If the diagnosis of melanoma is found to be positive, the doctor then needs to find the stages of melanoma.

The doctor can describe the melanoma treatment choices with the patient.Melanoma treatment depend on the extent of the disease, general health, patient’s age and other factors. Patients with melanoma are treated by a team of expert professionals which includes dermatologist, radiologist, surgeon, medical oncologist and plastic surgeon.

Before starting melanoma treatment, the second option of the treatment of melanoma should be discussed by the doctor with a patient. People with melanoma should be more active about their disease by involving in discussions with their doctor and it is important to overcome the shock and stress after a diagnosis of melanoma. Prognosis for melanoma depends on patient’s health and the extent of cancer spread to the lymph nodes or other organs. Melanoma treatment is difficult if the cancer has spread to other organs of the body. Possible complications of melanoma treatment and in general include:

Hair loss

Fatigue

Nausea

Pain

Spread to other organs

Damage to deep tissues

The cause of melanoma is attributed to gene mutations. Melanoma is also caused by exposure to sunlight for a longer period of time. Studies have shown that exposure to UV light can be a major cause of melanoma thus producing signs and symptoms of skin melanoma. The incidence of melanoma has been increased as a result of increased sunbathing. Some moles like Dysplastic nevi moles look abnormal and turn into melanoma. Ethnic origin and heredity are other causes of melanoma.

There are following types of melanoma.

Lentigo maligna melanoma

Superficial spreading ,elanoma

Acral-lentiginous melanoma

Nodular melanoma

There is an ABCD Rule to differentiate between Melanoma and the Moles.

Asymmetry

Border

Color

Diameter

Many people have moles on their body which are usually non cancerous and harmless causing no symptoms of melanoma. Other signs and melanoma symptoms include scaling, bleeding or oozing a mole, change in the appearance of a mole. Mole can become hard, itchy, lumpy, and tender or swollen. Melanoma may appear as a new mole on the body.

In men, melanoma symptoms occur on the trunk. In women, melanoma is usually found on the arms and lower legs. Symptoms of melanoma appear in fair-skinned people. Dark skinned people have melanoma on palms of the hands and the soles of the feet. It is also observed that in most families there are individuals with unusual moles which can turn into melanoma.

What is tea tree oil?

Tea tree oil or Melaleuca oil is an essential oil with a light golden shade to clear in color. It is usually obtained by steam distillation of the leaves of a plant native to Australia, which is Melaleuca alternifolia.

Why tea tree oil is famous for acne treatment?

There are number of products in which tea tree is used like shampoos, mouthwashes, creams, toothpastes, lotions and gels. Its popularity has been increasing since the past few years for effective acne and blemish treatment.

Tea tree oil contains terpinen-4-ol which, in fact, is responsible for an antibacterial activity. It is most effective in killing Propionibacterium acnes when applying topically to acne lesions. Tea tree oil gel can be compared to benzoyl peroxide which is also used for acne treatments but has many side effects like burning, itching, irritation and dryness affected almost 79% people, while tea tree oil has less side effects, easy to use and most effective according to recent study.

It is a precaution never to apply undiluted tea tree oil directly to ski which can cause irritation, itching, dryness, blistering and redness. Only 5% of the tea tree oil gel should be used to acne prone areas. A 5 ml of tea tree oil mixed with 95ml of water will make 5% tea tree oil solution.

It has a long history of use as Australian aboriginals used its leaves for curing burns, healing skin wounds, combating against infections due to its antiseptic and antifungal property as major constituents of tea tree oil are terpenoids. They used to just crush the leaves and then apply to the affected areas.

Tea tree oil is used for the following conditions:

Acne

Vaginitis

Periodontal problems

Antiseptic and antibacterial agent

Dandruff

Boils

Lice

Infections caused by using yeast

Athlete’s foot

Psoriasis

Eczema

Some people experience allergic disorders by its use like mild skin disorders, blisters and rashes. Tea tree oil is one of the five essential oils used for acne treatment.

Essential oils include tea tree oil, Bergamot oil, Roseweed oil, clove oil and lavender oil. Essential oils are being used to cure mild to moderate acne but to start treatment one should know the skin type and the kind of acne.

As a carrier oil to dilute essential oils Grapeseed oil is used to give best results. Essential oils are very strong so if rashes or irritation occur one should discontinue their use and consult a doctor. Using too much essential oil can result in overdose as they are very concentrated.

Tea tree oil

It soothes the affected skin areas as it is an excellent antiseptic, antifungal and antibacterial. Pregnant or nursing women should the use of ea tree oil as it can alter the hormone levels causing breast enlargement in boys, allergic reactions from mild to severe rashes and blisters. Its internal use is avoided. Excessive dosages can cause sleepiness, diarrhea, drowsiness, coma and depression. It should be out of the reach of children. Breast feeding women should avoid using tea tree oil.

Clove oil

It is very concentrated in its pure form so it should be diluted with Grapeseed oil which is skin friendly carrier oil. It is very strong and effective for many forms of acne.

Lavender Oil

It is very effective in treating the redness which is mostly associated with acne prone skin by its antibacterial properties. It should also be diluted before applying to the affected areas.

Rosewood Oil

It is used by people with excessive oily skin and reduces oil production from sebaceous glands. This oil is not recommended for people with dry skin.

Bergamot Oil

It has excellent antibacterial and drying properties making it most effective for acne and blemish treatment.

Improper use of essential oils can cause harm because they are very concentrated so they should not be applied directly to the skin. Avoid contact with eyes, ears and nose. It should not be taken internally and hands should be washed immediately after using the oils. Never expose the face to sun after applying the essential oils as it will increase the skin sensitivity. People with liver and kidney problems should consult their physician before using.

Acne among which acne vulgaris is one of the most common types of acne, as it affects not only teenagers but also people above 40.Acne can appear as pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, comedones, pustules, cysts(boils or deep pimples).

The blemishes can occur where there are oil/sebaceous glands that may be on chest, face and back.

Main causes of acne

There is not a single cause of acne but infact a group of causes. Acne produced when sebaceous glands are stimulated by male hormone, progesterone around puberty period. Sometimes skin cells block the openings of sebaceous glands and consequently produce a buildup of oil underneath. This oil accumulation makes the bacteria on one’s skin to be active which then cause inflammation of nearby cells. Pustule is a skin surface inflammation while pimple and cyst are deeper inflammations.

Blackhead forms if oil accumulates skin pigment melanin and oxidized thus changes its color from white to black but if oil comes to the surface it forms white head.

There are some factors that do not cause acne and includes:

Food: Fried foods, junk foods, chocolate and pizza do not cause acne.

Stress: Stress due to acne isn’t a leading cause of its occurrence.

Cosmetics: water-based or oil free cosmetics do not cause acne.

Hormones: Hormones don’t play much role in causing acne unless a woman have abnormal menstrual periods or excess hair growth on their body, oral contraceptive pills can provide relief. Pregnancy, in some cases, as reported by many women has a variable effect on acne.

Dirt: Sweat and dirt does not cause acne as blackheads are a form of oxidized oil.

Heredity: It is a misconception that acne is a heredity problem but in fact, it’s not the case. Every one has to face it once in their life.

Some drugs like steroids may worse the acne problem. At some sites of former acne lesions there can develop scars which generally fade with time as well as by using certain non-comedogenic products. Acne Rosacea is more sever form of acne in late 40s and early 50s.

Many people spend a lot of money for their skin care and treatment. There are some tips that help to prevent long term treatment of dermatologists as well as expensive and painful cosmetic surgery. These tips help to rejuvenate the inner beauty by inexpensive and easy means.

Human body is made up of 90%water so it is necessary to take a sufficient amount of water intake to keep skin cells and tissues healthy. It’s a better practice to keep a bottle of water that helps to prevent dehydration, which is exhibited by two most common symptoms; headache and dry skin.

Everybody should take food, which is rich in healthy oils and nutrious omega fats. Food that is rich in healthy oils such as fish used to nourish the skin and brain cells. Some foods that are rich in omega fats and used to heal the skin include coconut oil, avocado, hemp seeds, eggs and oily fishes like sardines, mackerel, herring and salmon. It is important to find out the ingredients that are present in skin and the hair care products. There are many chemicals in skin care products, which may be in personal use of a person and more likely to cause rashes, dryness, eczema, acne and dandruff so it is recommended to switch on to natural herbal care products.

Every season has its own bloom. Both summer and winter are refreshing if you pay little attention to your skin. People usually don’t use moisturizers in summer, but they need to take proper care of their skin in winter as skin begins to dry, irritating and itchy in winter.

Here are some suggestions as a winter care skin remedy for all women who likes to be perfect and lovely.

Skin can be hydrated from deep inside by a regular intake of sufficient water. Skin will then soon have a sparkling and healthy glow. Avoid washing face with a tap water as it often contains chloride and fluoride as well as some undesirable chemicals, which can make the skin more dry and rough. One should use mineral or ice cold water for washing face, and it would have additional benefits if a face is cleansed with alcohol free cleanser or some cleansing milk before washing face. Milk and toners actually remove impurities and dirt and make the skin to glow by refining pores leaving the skin soft, supple and hydrated.

Winter makes the skin dry and skin conditions become worse if a proper moisturizer is not used. Common lotions and creams available in the market that contains petroleum products and mineral oils should not be used, instead of it the use of creams and skin care products containing natural hypo allergic ingredients are most effective. After a morning shower, patting the whole body with coconut oil or cocoa butter is a better skin care treatment as they contain usually naturally occurring, protective and nourishing ingredients like proteins, skin friendly vitamins A, C, D, E and essential oils. Natural lotions and creams are more beneficial for a dry skin as they not only moisturize and heal the skin but also protect the skin from aging.

Instead of having dry and cracked skin, a humidifier system keeps skin soft and supple. Use of a good exfoliating scrub or facial skin care helps remove dead and old cells from the skin making the skin feel fresh, healthier looking and glowing.

Moisturizer should be oil based. Use of ointments in this regard is important as they contain 80%oil and 20%water.
